The father of the missile program in India is Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. Dr. Sarabhai was an Indian scientist and innovator who is widely regarded as the father of India’s space program. He played a crucial role in the establishment of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the development of the country’s missile program.

Dr. Sarabhai was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 1919 and received his early education in India before completing his higher studies in Cambridge, England. After returning to India, he became involved in a number of scientific and technological initiatives, including the establishment of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad.

In 1969, Dr. Sarabhai was appointed as the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and played a key role in the development of India’s satellite and missile programs. Under his leadership, ISRO successfully launched its first satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975 and developed a number of indigenous missiles, including the Prithvi and Agni series.

Dr. Sarabhai passed away in 1971, but his contributions to the field of science and technology in India continue to be recognized and remembered. He is widely considered to be the father of India’s missile program and his work laid the foundations for the country’s successful space program.
