The flight from Bahrain to Vadodara marked a journey of paramount importance as the IAF gears up to bolster its transport capabilities. The aircraft, piloted by Group Captain PS Negi, made several strategic stopovers in Malta, Egypt, and Bahrain before touching down on Indian soil.

According to IAF officials, a total of 56 C-295 transport aircraft are set to join the IAF’s arsenal, signifying a significant enhancement of the country’s military airlift capabilities. Remarkably, 40 of these aircraft are slated to be manufactured in India as part of a joint venture between Tata and Airbus, further contribut ing to the “Make in India” initiative.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of Air Staff, received the first C-295 aircraft at Airbus’s production facility in Seville, Spain, a moment he described as “momentous” for both the IAF and the nation as a whole. In his statement, he highlighted the beginning of a new era in which India will locally manufacture 40 of these state-of-the-art aircraft.

“It is a momentous day for us, for the Indian Air Force in particular, and a nation as a whole to receive the first aircraft which marks the beginning of a new era, wherein we will be manufacturing 40 of these aircraft in India,” Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari remarked.

The induction of the C-295 transport aircraft is expected to significantly enhance the IAF’s strategic airlift capabilities, facilitating troop transport, humanitarian missions, and disaster relief operations. As the aircraft makes its journey from Vadodara to Delhi for the formal induction ceremony, it symbolizes India’s commitment to bolstering its defense infrastructure and achieving self-reliance in the aerospace sector.
