In Urdu, the word “Quran” (قُرآن) means “The recitation” or “The reading”. It is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be the word of God as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. The Quran is written in Arabic and contains 114 chapters or Surahs, which are arranged roughly in order of length, with the longest Surahs at the beginning and the shortest at the end.
