According to a report by Dawn, a terrorist group targeted a police station in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa using a combination of firearms and missiles. Luckily, there were no reported casualties from the attack that occurred on Sunday.
According to Dawn, Syed Yaqoob Shah reported that the terrorists encircled the Yarik police station early in the morning, around 1 am and launched missile at the station. The police immediately respond to the attack, which results in a gunfire exchange between the police and the attackers.
A spokesperson stated that the police station was partially damaged as a result of the attack. This is the first time a police station in Dera Ismail Khan has been targeted using both firearms and missiles. The attack comes amid a trend of increasing terrorist activity throughout Pakistan. This follows the end of a ceasefire between the government and militants on November 28th. Furthermore, recent months have seen an uptick in terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly with an increase in attacks on law enforcement. As per the report of Dawn.
On December 29, three officers from the Pakistani army were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the Arawali region of Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by the military media wing of Pakistan (ISPR) and confirmed by Dawn. The officers who lost their lives were identified as Subedar Shuja Muhammad, Naik Muhammad Ramzan, and Sepoy Abdul Rehman.
On December 29, a firefight broke out between a group of terrorists and security forces in the Arawali area of Kurram District. The military reported that their troops engaged the terrorists effectively and two of the attackers were killed. The military also reported that weapons and ammunition were found on the deceased terrorists and that they had been actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces. In addition, the police conducted a search of the area to ensure that any remaining terrorists were eliminated. The Pakistan army has stated its commitment to eliminating the threat of terrorism.
